#38 -AROUND THE BEND

#38 -A GARDEN OBSERVED

Well, somehow I didn’t leave landscapes today.  I eked out yet another one.  I got into the idea of my front garden as a landscape and went from there.  No black.  No brown. But dare I say a little too bold?  You may need sunglasses for this one!

I probably shouldn’t delve too much into garden talk because come May 1st, you won’t hear anything else for months!  Some of my favorites are Gaillardia, lavender, Echinacea, sea grass, knock out roses, Rudbeckia, Coreopsis, Sedum, hydrangea….I guess the list could go on.  I planted a butterfly garden in the fall.  I can’t even tell you what I planted. I guess I will have to wait for my gardens to unfold.

I started the painting with the concept of the trees being periwinkle and from there, I chose its compliment, goldenrod.  I was going to attempt to create an entire garden without the use of any traditional greens, but a little green crept in there.

I still have this frustration about my landscapes being too tight.  They are nearly as loose as I’d like them to be.  Too much detail and brush stroke.  Maybe this is due to the size of the 10×10 canvas.  If it was 60×60 I could have a little more room to play with!  Like a still life, I should really work on no more than 3 focal points in the landscape. This might allow me to get some larger brushstrokes in.  We’ll see….there’s so much to try, so much to do, and dare I say quite a bit of time left to accomplish it!

Well, I guess it’s time to head to the store.  We are expecting over a foot of snow tomorrow and I need some good eats to hunker down with.

I’m considering posting a blank white canvas tomorrow.  I could probably write at least 5 paragraphs about the snowman on my roof, created by the polar bear, who jumped off my roof into a giant pool of white chilly stuff called SNOW!  If you see that post, you know I slept in :)
