#132 – Happy Mom’s Day

#132 - Happy Mom's Day

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO US ALL! Each and every one of us.

I’ve been a mom for 8 years now and I feel like I’ve earned the right to say all of those clichés to the newbies.

Your life will never be the same.

Enjoy it, it goes by fast.

No one is ever as cute as your own.

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

You will finally understand what it means to put others before yourself.

I’m sure I could spend the rest of the night coming up with words of wisdom and as we all know, they are so darn true.

I am a better human being because I am a MOTHER.

I woke up this morning at my sister’s house ready to spend the day with my mother, my sister and all of our kids. I heard lots of little voices and shuffling around, so I peaked into my nieces bedroom.  The four kids had set up a workshop creating mother’s day cards for us all.  I’m not sure which is more special, the cute little cards we received or the gift of peaking in the room this morning and witnessing such beauty.

I am the “Artsy-Craftsy-Aunt”.  I begged the kids, “If I promise not to look at your surprises, can I stay and make a card for my mother too?”

They let me stay.

I always have a sketch pen in my bag, so I doodled away for Mother’s Day.  Minutes turned into and hour and then some.  When I finally looked up, all the kids had left the room to go play while Auntie Mary sat in the pink bedroom doodling on the floor.  Total throwback to my childhood, that is exactly what you would have found me doing on most days, except my kid room had a green grass shag carpet and rainbow-colored artwork throughout my room!

I finally finished my card and wrote inside “Just Becase I Love You!” This is a family joke.  When my sister was in her twenties, she worked so hard to create this wooden crate filled with flowers for our mother.  She painted and stenciled and planted…and finally she presented it to my mom. We busted out laughing!  We knew she had worked so hard on this thing and no matter what, the first thing you noticed was that my sister forgot the “u” in because.

We all loved it.  Because really, that’s how life is.  We try so hard at so many things in life and no matter what, sometimes you just forget the “u”.

Today,I gave my mom half of the broken planter I made in pottery class.  It’s absolutly useless, but she can know I spent many a week in pottery class thinking of her!

So, I leave you with this.

Always keep your humor and let go of perfectionism. It is what is in your heart that matters.

I hope you all have wonderfully perfect-imperfect Mother’s Days!
